謦欬（上口冷反說文謦亦欬也下苦戴反說文云逆氣返也亦瘶也有作謦音口定反樂器也或作咳音胡來反嬰咳也皆非此用瘶蘇奏反）。

謦欬 [Coughing and clearing the throat]: The upper [character] has the fanqie 口冷 (kǒu + lěng = qǐng); the Shuowen says, “謦 is also 欬.” The lower [character] has the fanqie 苦戴 (kǔ + dài = kài); the Shuowen says, “Qi moving adversely and returning; it is also coughing.” Some write 謦 with the sound 口定 (kǒu + dìng = qìng), which is a musical instrument; or write 欬 as 咳 with the sound 胡來 (hú + lái = hái), which is an infant's cough—neither is used here. For 瘶 (cough), the fanqie is 蘇奏 (sū + zòu = sòu).
