洲渚（上音州下章與反爾雅曰水中可居者曰洲小洲曰渚小渚曰沚也詩云在河之洲也方言云洲灘也音他丹反沚音止渚或作陼）。

洲渚 [Islet and sandbar]: The upper [character] has the sound 州 (zhōu). The lower [character] has the fanqie 章與 (zhāng + yǔ = zhǔ); the Erya states, “Habitable land within the water is called 洲; a small islet is called 渚; a tiny sandbar is called 沚.” The Shijing says, “On the river's islet.” The Fangyan says, “洲 is a shoal (灘); its sound is 他丹 (tā + dān = tān).” 沚 has the sound 止. 渚 is also written 陼.
