怪愕（上古壞反論語云子不語怪王肅注云怪異也律文作恠亦通下五各反切韻驚也從心咢聲也咢音同上）。

怪愕 (Astonished and alarmed: for the first character, fanqie 古壞 [guài], the Lunyu says: 'The Master did not speak of the uncanny (怪).' Wang Su's commentary says: '怪 means strange.' The vinaya text writes 恠, which is also acceptable. For the second character, fanqie 五各 [è], the Qieyun says: 'Frightened.' It is formed from 心 [heart/mind] with 咢 phonetic; 咢 has the same sound as above.)
