【Gṛdhra】 This translates as vulture. Or gṛdharāja, which translates as eagle-vulture. The Classic of Mountains and Seas says: "Mount Jing has many vultures." The Shuowen says: "The vulture bird is black and has many offspring." Shi Kuang says: "In the Southern Mountains there is a bird named the Qiang vulture, with a yellow head, red throat, and endowed with all five colors." There are many such birds in the Western Regions; they are greyish-yellow with red eyes, and eat dead corpses.
