【Piṅgala】 The preface to the *Mūlamadhyamakakārikā* states: "Among the various kingdoms of India, all those who dare enter the ranks of scholars savor this treatise and regard it as essential. Those who took up the brush to comment on and explain it were also quite numerous. What is now produced is the commentary of an Indian brahmacārin named Piṅgala, called Blue Eyes (Qingmu) in the Qin language. Although this man had faith in and understanding of the profound Dharma, and his language was also elegant and appropriate, where there were perversities or prolixities within it, the Dharma Master trimmed and supplemented them."
