[Kṣatriya] Sengzhao said: "The royal lineage; in the Qin language, 'lord of the fields.' At the beginning of the kalpa, humans ate the flavor of the earth, and then shifted to eating natural non-glutinous rice. Later, human desires grew deceitful, and each staked claims and accumulated stores. Thereupon they established a virtuous person to equitably distribute the fields; this was the beginning of kings. Therefore they took their name through succession; because of their nobility and sovereignty, their fierce power and willful pleasure, they could not endure being submissive." Kumārajīva said: "The Sanskrit sound contains two meanings: one means forbearance, and the second means capable of wrath. It means this person has great power, is capable of great wrath, endures suffering and pain, and is tough and hard to subdue; thus it was taken as a family name."
