10.69

中書令岑文本。少信佛。常念誦法華經普門品。甞乘船於吳江中。船壞人死。文本亦沒。水聞有人言。但念佛必不死。如是三言。遂隨波出沒。須臾著岸云云。

The Secretariat Director Cen Wenben had faith in the Buddha from his youth and constantly recited the Universal Gate Chapter of the Saddharmapuṇḍarīka-sūtra. He was once riding a boat on the Wu River when the boat was wrecked and the passengers died. Wenben was also submerged. In the water he heard someone say, 'Only be mindful of the Buddha and you will certainly not die.' It was spoken thus three times. Thereupon he bobbed up and down with the waves, and in a moment reached the shore, and so forth.
