The śramaṇa Lokakṣema was a native of the country of the Yuezhi. His conduct was pure and deep, and his disposition broad-minded and sharp. He kept the Dharma precepts and chanted the various scriptures. His aspiration lay in propagation, travelling through regions to transform beings. From the first year of the Jianhe reign era of Emperor Huan, the year being dinghai, to the third year of the Zhongping reign era of Emperor Ling, the year being bingyin, he translated in Luoyang: the Akṣobhyatathāgatasyavyūha Sūtra (in two fascicles), the Mahāsaṃnipāta Sūtra (in twenty-seven fascicles), the Aṣṭasāhasrikā Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra (in ten fascicles), the Śūraṅgamasamādhi Sūtra (in two fascicles), the Dunzhen tuoluoni jing (in two fascicles), the Ajātaśatrukaukṛtyavinodanā Sūtra (in two fascicles), the Wuliang qingjing jing (in two fascicles), the Bo ben jing (in two fascicles), the Pratyutpanna-samādhi Sūtra (in two fascicles), the Gu pin yiri shuo banre jing (in one fascicle), the Ratnakūṭa Sūtra (in one fascicle), the Wenshu jing (in one fascicle), the Fan banni Huan jing (in one fascicle), the Ajātaśatru's Question on the Five Inexpiable Sins Sūtra (in one fascicle), the Dousha jing (in one fascicle), the Neizang bai pin jing (in one fascicle), the Mahākāruṇika-upāyakauśalya-bhṛtanirdeśa Sūtra (in one fascicle), the Guangming sanmei jing (in one fascicle), the Chan jing (in one fascicle), the Za piyu jing (in one fascicle), and the Aśokāvadāna Sūtra on the Blinding of the Crown Prince (in one fascicle)—in total, twenty-one works comprising sixty-three fascicles. He accurately captured the original purport without adding embellishments; he can truly be called a gentleman who was skilled at propagating the essentials of the Dharma and broadening the Way. Scribes included the upāsakas Meng Fu and Zhang Lian of Henan.
