The śramaṇa Kālayaśas (translated as "Renowned in Time" [Shicheng]) was a man from the Western Regions. His nature was staunch and upright, with few desires. Skilled in the Tripiṭaka, he knew much by heart, and was particularly adept at meditative reflection. In the first year of the Yuanjia era of Emperor Wen of the Song, the year jia-zi, he arrived at the capital. The emperor favored him deeply and ordered him to dwell at the Daolin Hermitage on Mount Zhong. He translated the Guan Yaowang Yaoshang er pusa jing (one fascicle) and the Wuliangshou guan jing (one fascicle). The śramaṇa Senghan served as scribe.
