11.16.1
Mahāratnakūṭa-sūtra, one hundred and twenty fascicles (twelve cases).
Translated by Bodhiruci, Tripiṭaka Master from South India, and others, under the Great Tang (newly compiled into the catalogue).
The above sūtra consists of forty-nine assemblies in total, comprising both new and old, repeat and sole translations, brought together into a single work. (Together, the new and old comprise twenty assemblies that are sole translations, and twenty-nine assemblies that are repeat translations. Among these, twenty-six assemblies were newly translated by Bodhiruci, Tripiṭaka Master of the Great Tang, while twenty-three assemblies are older translations as well as previous translations under the Tang; Bodhiruci collated them against the Sanskrit text, found them identical, and compiled them into the sequence of assemblies, which are fully listed as follows:)
1. Assembly on the Three Sets of Precepts (Trisaṃvara-nirdeśa), three fascicles.
Newly translated by Bodhiruci, Tripiṭaka Master of the Great Tang (second translation).
The above is a newly translated repeat text. It is a different translation of the same text as the older Great Vaipulya Sūtra on the Three Precepts. It runs from fascicle 1 to fascicle 3.
2. Assembly on the Immeasurable Adornments (Anantamukha-pariśodhana-nirdeśa), four fascicles.
Newly translated by Bodhiruci, Tripiṭaka Master of the Great Tang.
The above is a newly translated sole text. It runs from fascicle 4 to fascicle 7.
3. Assembly on Guhyakādhipati Vajrapāṇi (Guhyaka-nirdeśa), seven fascicles.
Translated by Dharmarakṣa, Tripiṭaka Master of the Western Jin (collated and compiled into the assembly sequence).
The above is an older translation and a sole text. It runs from fascicle 8 to fascicle 14.
4. Assembly on the Śuddhāvāsa Deva (Śuddhāvāsaparipṛcchā), two fascicles.
Translated by Dharmarakṣa, Tripiṭaka Master of the Western Jin (taken from Fashang's Catalogue, collated, and compiled into the assembly sequence).
The above is an older translation and a sole text. It was originally titled Sūtra on the Dreams Explained by the Bodhisattva. It was newly renamed Assembly on the Śuddhāvāsa Deva. It corresponds to fascicles 15 and 16. (Upon close examination, its phrasing is slightly unlike Dharmarakṣa's sūtras. Catalogues like that of Changfang all state it to be an anonymous translation. Fashang's Catalogue states that it was produced by Dharmarakṣa; now I tentatively settle it according to Fashang's Catalogue.)
5. Assembly on the Tathāgata Amitāyus (Sukhāvatī-vyūha), two fascicles.
Newly translated by Bodhiruci, Tripiṭaka Master of the Great Tang (eleventh translation).
The above is a newly translated repeat text. It is a different translation of the same text as the older Sūtras on the Immeasurable Pure Equal Enlightenment, the Great Amitābha, and Amitāyus. It corresponds to fascicles 17 and 18.
6. Assembly on the Tathāgata Akṣobhya (Akṣobhya-tathāgatasya-vyūha), two fascicles.
Newly translated by Bodhiruci, Tripiṭaka Master of the Great Tang (third translation).
The above is a newly translated repeat text. It is a different translation of the same text as the older Sūtra of the Land of Akṣobhya Buddha. It corresponds to fascicles 19 and 20.
7. Assembly on the Armor-clad Adornment (Varmavyūha-nirdeśa), five fascicles.
Newly translated by Bodhiruci, Tripiṭaka Master of the Great Tang.
The above is a newly translated sole text. It runs from fascicle 21 to fascicle 25.
8. Assembly on the Non-differentiation of the Nature of the Dharmadhātu (Dharmadhātuprakṛty-asaṃbheda-nirdeśa), two fascicles.
Translated by Mandrasena, Tripiṭaka Master of the Liang (second translation, collated, and compiled into the assembly sequence).
The above is an older translation and a repeat text. It is a different translation of the same text as the Sūtra on the Nature of the Dharmadhātu translated by Tongshou [Kumārajīva] under the Yao Qin. It corresponds to fascicles 26 and 27. (The Qin translation is lost.)
9. Assembly on the Ten Dharmas of the Mahāyāna (Dharmasaṅgīti), one fascicle.
Translated by Buddhaśānta, Tripiṭaka Master of the Northern Wei (second translation, collated, and compiled into the assembly sequence).
The above is an older translation and a repeat text. It is a different translation of the same text as the Sūtra on the Ten Dharmas of the Mahāyāna translated by Zhongkai [Saṅghapāla] of the Liang (the one that opens with "Bhagavat"). It corresponds to fascicle 28. (The sūtra texts titled as translated by Saṅghapāla are errors.)
10. Assembly on Mañjuśrī's Universal Gate (Samantamukha-parivarta), one fascicle.
Newly translated by Bodhiruci, Tripiṭaka Master of the Great Tang (third translation).
The above is a newly translated repeat text. It is a different translation of the same text as the older Sūtra on the Universal Gate Chapter. It corresponds to fascicle 29.
11. Assembly on the Manifestation of Radiance (Raśmisamatikrānta-nirdeśa), five fascicles.
Newly translated by Bodhiruci, Tripiṭaka Master of the Great Tang.
The above is a newly translated sole text. It runs from fascicle 30 to fascicle 34.
12. Assembly on the Bodhisattvapiṭaka (Bodhisattvapiṭaka), twenty fascicles.
Translated by Xuanzang, Tripiṭaka Master of the Great Tang (taken from the Neidian Catalogue, collated, and compiled into the assembly sequence).
The above is an older translation under the Tang and a sole text. It runs from fascicle 35 to fascicle 54. (As for this Bodhisattvapiṭaka Assembly, according to the Great Zhou Catalogue it was entered among repeat translations, claiming to be a different translation of the same text as the three-fascicle Bodhisattvapiṭaka Sūtra; this is a grave error. Though their titles are identical, the amount of text is completely different, and upon examining their text and meaning they are even further apart. That three-fascicle Bodhisattvapiṭaka Sūtra is also compiled into this collection, being the Pūrṇa Assembly. Now I alter the old track and treat it as a sole translation.)
13. Assembly on the Buddha Explaining the Abiding in the Womb to Ānanda (Ānandagarbhāvakrānti-nirdeśa), one fascicle.
Newly translated by Bodhiruci, Tripiṭaka Master of the Great Tang (second translation).
The above is a newly translated repeat text. It is a different translation of the same text as the older Sūtra on the Embryo in the Womb. It corresponds to fascicle 55.
14. Assembly on the Buddha Expounding the Descent into the Womb (Nandagarbhāvakrānti-nirdeśa), two fascicles.
Translated by Yijing, Tripiṭaka Master of the Great Tang (collated and compiled into the assembly sequence).
The above is an older translation under the Tang and a sole text. It corresponds to fascicles 56 and 57. (This Descent into the Womb Assembly was originally titled Sūtra on the Buddha Explaining Leaving the Household and Entering the Womb to Nanda, found in fascicles 11 and 12 of the Mūlasarvāstivāda-vinaya-kṣudrakavastu. Tripiṭaka Master Yijing extracted it as an independently circulating text. Bodhiruci collated it against the Sanskrit text, found it identical, and compiled it into the assembly sequence; since it was not re-translated, it is a sole text. Furthermore, compared with the story in the Saṃyuktaratnapiṭaka-sūtra of Nanda being urged by the Buddha to leave the household, although they are slightly alike at the beginning, they are completely different later on, so they should not be treated as repeat translations. Judging from their text and doctrine, this assembly as well as the previous assembly should properly belong to the Śrāvakapiṭaka; now that they are compiled into the Ratnakūṭa, they are comprehensively subsumed under the Bodhisattvapiṭaka.)
15. Assembly on Mañjuśrī's Prediction (Mañjuśrī-buddhakṣetraguṇa-vyūha), three fascicles.
Translated by Śikṣānanda, Tripiṭaka Master of Khotan under the Heavenly Empress of the Great Tang (third translation, collated, and compiled into the assembly sequence).
The above is an older translation under the Tang and a repeat text. It is a different translation of the same text as the older Sūtra on the Purification of the Buddha Land of Mañjuśrī. It runs from fascicle 58 to fascicle 60.
16. Assembly on the Bodhisattva Discerning Reality (Pitāputrasaṃāgama), sixteen fascicles.
Translated by Narendrayaśas, Tripiṭaka Master of the Northern Qi (collated and compiled into the assembly sequence).
The above is an older translation and a sole text. It runs from fascicle 61 to fascicle 76.
17. Assembly on Pūrṇa (Pūrṇa-paripṛcchā), three fascicles.
Translated by Kumārajīva, Tripiṭaka Master of the Yao Qin (second translation, collated, and compiled into the assembly sequence).
The above is an older translation and a repeat text. It was originally titled Bodhisattvapiṭaka Sūtra, and also titled Sūtra of the Mind of Great Compassion. It is a different translation of the same text as the Bodhisattvapiṭaka Sūtra translated by Dharmarakṣa under the Western Jin. It runs from fascicle 77 to fascicle 79. (The Jin translation is lost.)
18. Assembly on Bodhisattva Rāṣṭrapāla (Rāṣṭrapāla-paripṛcchā), two fascicles.
Translated by Jñānagupta, Tripiṭaka Master of the Sui (taken from the Neidian Catalogue, collated, and compiled into the assembly sequence).
The above is an older translation and a sole text. It corresponds to fascicles 80 and 81.
19. Assembly on the Elder Ugra (Ugra-paripṛcchā), one fascicle.
Translated by Saṅghavarman, Tripiṭaka Master of the Cao Wei (third translation, collated, and compiled into the assembly sequence).
The above is an older translation and a repeat text. It is a different translation of the same text as the Dharma Mirror Sūtra and the Sūtra on the Bodhisattva's Practice Inquired by Ugra the Householder. It corresponds to fascicle 82. (The sūtra texts attributing it to Kang Sengyi are errors.)
20. Assembly on the Inexhaustible Hidden Treasury (Vidyutprāpta-paripṛcchā), two fascicles.

The above is a newly translated sole text. It corresponds to fascicles 83 and 84.

The above is an older translated sole translation. It corresponds to fascicle 93 and fascicle 94.
(Regarding this Subāhu Assembly, the Great Zhou Catalogue says that it is a different translation of the same text as the Sūtra of the Bodhisattva Who Sustains Humankind, the Sūtra of Upholding the World, and the Sūtra of the Chapter of the Well-Shouldered [Bodhisattva], etc., but this is incorrect. Examining its literary style and reasoning, the doctrinal purports are vastly different from the Sūtra of the One Who Sustains Humankind and others. As for the Sūtra of the Well-Shouldered, it is an excerpt made from the Subāhu Sūtra, analogous to the Universal Gate Chapter of the Lotus Sūtra. Since there are such differences, it is considered a sole translation.)
Assembly 27: Surata Bodhisattva, in one fascicle.
Newly translated by the Tripiṭaka Master Bodhiruci of the Great Tang.
The above is a newly translated sole translation. It corresponds to fascicle 95.
Assembly 28: Vīradatta the Elder, in one fascicle.

It corresponds to fascicle 98, from the beginning to the middle. (The text of his earlier translated Sumati Sūtra was in the Eastern Capital; it was searched for but not found.)

The above is an older translated variant text. It is a different translation of the same text as the Sūtra of the Maiden Vimaladattā and the Sūtra on Obtaining the Impeccable Maiden. It corresponds to fascicle 100. (The attribution of the text's title to Dharmarakṣa is an error. The Sūtra of the Maiden Vimaladattā was translated by Dharmarakṣa, as clarified below.)
Assembly 34: The Bodhisattva Puṣpaguṇasañcaya, sharing one fascicle with the following assembly.
Newly translated by the Tripiṭaka Master Bodhiruci of the Great Tang.

Assembly 39: Bhadrapāla the Elder, in two fascicles.
Translated by the Tripiṭaka Master Jñānagupta under the Sui (first translation; collated, verified, and incorporated).
The above is an older translated variant text. Its original title was the Sūtra on the Transference of Consciousness; it has now been retitled the Assembly of Bhadrapāla the Elder (the original Sūtra on the Transference of Consciousness lacked the introductory verification of faith, which has now been newly added to the Ratnakūṭa version). It is a different translation of the same text as the Sūtra on the Manifestation of Consciousness. It corresponds to fascicle 109 and fascicle 110.

11.16.3
Those that say it was translated by Dharmarakṣa are mistaken; the earlier *Original Vows Sūtra* was indeed translated by Dharmarakṣa, as is shown below.)
43rd Assembly: Assembly of Bodhisattva Samantamukha (Puming), in one fascicle.
Anonymous translation (now appended to the Qin catalogue; compared and verified to be identical, and entered into the assembly sequence; 3rd translation).

It is a different translation of the same text as the two sūtras *Mahāyāna-ratnacūḍa* and *Fo yiri moni bao jing*. It corresponds to fascicle 112 (this earlier *Ratnakūṭa* text has an explanatory treatise in four fascicles).

Newly translated by Bodhiruci, Tripiṭaka master of the Great Tang (2nd translation).
The above is a new translation of duplicate texts. It is a different translation of the same text as the earlier *Vyāsa-paripṛcchā-sūtra*. It corresponds to fascicle 120 (when this newly translated text is compared to the earlier sūtra, its closing text is deficient by nearly one sheet; some people appended the earlier sūtra to it to make the precious intention complete).

Translated by Dharmakṣema, Indian Tripiṭaka master of the Northern Liang (taken from Fashang's catalogue; 1st translation).

The above single sūtra is a different translation of the same text as the tenth assembly of the *Ratnakūṭa*, the *Mañjuśrī-samantamukha Assembly* (the Zhou Catalogue's taking it as an extraction from the Lotus Sūtra is utterly mistaken; of three translations, new and old, one translation is lost).

Translated by Dharmarakṣa, Tripiṭaka master of the Western Jin (1st translation).

Various catalogues all state that it was translated by Ratnamati, or that it was translated by Bodhiruci; both are erroneous. We now take the preface as authoritative. This Vyāsa-sūtra was placed in older catalogues as a Hīnayāna sole translation; having collated and verified it, it is now placed as a Mahāyāna duplicate translation).
