first year of Yongding. Chen Baxian established the state title of Chen. Furthermore, there is a chronicle, though it is unknown who authored it. It states that in the third year of Chengsheng, jiaxu, it was changed to the first year of Dading, and up to the Later Liang a total of eight years elapsed before the era name was changed. However, none of the four chronological tables contains a third year of Shaotai. Since the four texts all differ, it is not clear which is the correct account. It may be that the dingchou year of the third year of Shaotai of Liang is precisely the first year of Yongding at the beginning of the Chen. The chronicles only record the later era title and do not include the earlier designation. For now, we follow the sūtra colophon and record it as a translation of the Liang dynasty.)
