14.24

勅旨依奏。梵網經云。孝順父母師僧三寶。孝順至道之法。孝名為戒。曾子曰。慎終追遠民德歸厚矣。

The imperial decree ordered: "Approved as requested." The Brahmā Net Sūtra states: "Filially obey your father, mother, master, monks, and the Three Jewels. Filial obedience is the method of the ultimate Way; filial obedience is called the precepts." Master Zeng said: "Be careful at the end and pursue [the remembrance of] the distant; then the virtue of the people will return to thickness."
