From the tenth year (dingmao) of the Yongping reign of Emperor Xiaoming of the Later Han [67 CE] to the sixteenth year (gengchen) of the Zhenyuan reign of the Sagely, Divine, Civil, and Martial Emperor of the Great Tang [800 CE], there are 734 years in all (including seventy-one years added from the eighteenth year [gengwu] of the Kaiyuan reign [730] down to the present gengchen year). In the interim, there were 187 translators, both ordained and lay. The sacred teachings of the Tripiṭaka of the Mahāyāna and Hīnayāna two vehicles produced by them, together with the anthologies and biographies of sages and saints, and works whose translators are lost, total 2,447 works (among which 139 works are newly added), in 7,399 fascicles. Those currently circulating and those lacking texts are all included in the aforementioned numbers (among which 342 fascicles are newly added).
