At that time the Bhagavat said to King Prasenajit: "You asked before: 'Abiding in what characteristics should one contemplate?' A bodhisattva mahāsattva should contemplate thus: seeing illusory transformations by means of an illusory body, and abiding properly in equanimity without self and other. Thus contemplating, they transform and benefit sentient beings. Yet for sentient beings through distant kalpas, their first moment of consciousness was distinct from wood and stone; having acquired defilement and purity by birth, each can be the root of immeasurable and countless defiled and pure consciousnesses. From that first moment for ineffable kalpas, down to the final moment of the vajra[-like concentration], there are ineffable, ineffable consciousnesses that produce the two dharmas of form and mind in sentient beings—form is named the form aggregate, and mind is named the four aggregates—all are of an accumulative nature, concealing reality.
