The Exposition says: The meaning is to clarify that the contaminated accumulation of merit, because it has an abiding, can be inverted. The signless accumulation of merit abides solely in the stations of mindfulness and does not abide in defiled characteristics; because it can serve as the root for the Buddha's wisdom, it is not inverted and is not rejected. In the text of this treatise there are three parts: first the question, next the reply, and then the Buddha's explanation and confirmation. The question asks: if one offers jewels to the Buddha, producing immeasurable merit, so that one will attain sovereignty in the Buddha's body of merit, can this be considered much? The Zhenguan version says: "makes an offering to the Tathāgata."
