Sūtra: One should give rise to a mind that does not dwell anywhere. / Commentary: Third, restatement for confirmation. The treatise states: 'To accomplish those various instances of non-dwelling, it speaks of precluding other things, as the sūtra says: "One should give rise to a mind that does not dwell anywhere. Why? If the mind has a dwelling, that is not a dwelling," and so forth.' Here, 'precluding other things' means precluding the mind having any dwelling. The text is divided into two: first, direct confirmation; second, inverse preclusion. This is the first. Above, it was said that one should not dwell in form, non-form, self, non-self, and so forth to give rise to the mind; to accomplish this meaning, dwelling neither in emptiness nor in existence is appropriate. Therefore it says, 'One should give rise to a mind that does not dwell anywhere.'
