1.71

經。須菩提於意云何若人滿三千大千世界七寶以用布施是人所得福德寧為多不　第二較量顯勝也。文別有二。初舉劣後辨勝。初中復四。一問二答三徵四釋。此初問也。所以斷疑之後有較量者。當知疑生即理惑。疑斷即福增。福增既在於能詮故彰施福之非福。而今返問善現者。寶豐而福勝故曰甚多。

[Sūtra:] "Subhūti, what do you think? If a person filled a trichiliocosm with the seven treasures to use for giving, would the merit obtained by this person be much?" The second demonstrates superiority through comparison. The text has two distinct parts: first adducing the inferior, and then discerning the superior. The first part again has four: 1. question, 2. answer, 3. inquiry, 4. explanation. This is the first, the question. Why is there a comparison after resolving the doubt? One should know that when doubts arise, there is delusion about the principle; when doubts are severed, merit increases. Since the increase of merit lies in what expresses it, it illustrates that the merit of giving is non-merit. But now questioning Subhūti in reverse: because the treasures are abundant, the merit is superior; hence he says, "very much."
