[Sūtra:] "'Therefore, Subhūti, all bodhisattva-mahāsattvas should generate a pure mind in this way: they should not generate a mind abiding in forms; they should not generate a mind abiding in sounds, scents, tastes, tangible objects, or dharmas; they should generate their mind without abiding in anything.'"

This is the fifth [part], the exhortation. The reason the Tathāgata admonished and exhorted is that he wished to cause sentient beings not to abide in the adornment of external forms and characteristics, but to accomplish the ultimate truth's adornment of consciousness-only. "Should not generate a mind abiding in forms" means that because those six dusts are precisely the adornment of forms and characteristics, if one abides in these, one loses those; therefore it is said again: "they should generate their mind without abiding in anything."
