在毘耶離　此下五列聽經處。有通有別。通為遠者知別為近不謬。此初通處。肇曰。毘耶離國名也。秦言廣嚴。其土平廣嚴事因以為名。又云。好稻土之宜也。

'In Vaiśālī' — Below this is the fifth: listing the place of hearing the scripture. There are general and specific aspects: the general lets those far away know, while the specific ensures that those close by do not err. This is first the general place. Sengzhao said: 'Vaiśālī is the name of a country; in Qin, it is called "Broad and Adorned" (Guangyan). Its territory is broad and flat, and its affairs are adorned, hence it was named from this. It is also said to mean "Good Rice", after the suitability of the soil.'
