魔言。居士可捨此女。一切所有施於彼者。是為菩薩　此八還女文五。一索女。二還女。三請法。四為說。五隨還。此初索也。肇曰。淨名化導既訖魔知其不悋故請也。菩薩之道一切無惜想。能見還也。

The māra said, "Householder, you should relinquish these maidens; one who gives all that he possesses to another is a bodhisattva." This eighth [part] is returning the maidens. The text has five [parts]: first, demanding the maidens; second, returning the maidens; third, requesting the Dharma; fourth, expounding it for them; fifth, following him in returning. This is the first, demanding them. Zhao says: "Jingming's transformation and guidance having concluded, the māra knew he was not stingy, so he requested them. In the bodhisattva's Way, there is no sparing thought for anything, so [the māra] expected they would be returned to him."
