所以者何。憶念。我昔自於父舍設大施會。供養一切沙門婆羅門及諸外道。貧窮下賤孤獨乞人。期滿七日　二略釋也。在家大士故於父舍行施化同類也　生曰。婆羅門法七日祠梵天行大施期生彼也。言已承嫡繼業於父舍然也。奇之可以致明法施大矣。什曰。所以乃至第七日方來譏者。欲令其功德滿心淳熟也。

"Why is this? I recall that in the past, at my father's house, I set up a great gathering for giving, making offerings to all śramaṇas, brāhmaṇas, tīrthikas, the poor, the lowly, the solitary, and beggars, scheduled for a full seven days." Second is the brief explanation. As a householder mahāsattva, he practiced giving at his father's house to transform his own kind. Sheng says: "It is a brāhmaṇa practice to make offerings to Brahmā for seven days and perform great giving in the aspiration to be born there. Saying that he had inherited the lineage and continued the enterprise at his father's house, it was thus. Through its extraordinary nature, one can make clear how vast the gift of the Dharma is." Shi says: "The reason he did not come to reproach him until the seventh day was that he wished his merit to be full and his mind fully matured."
