以具相好及淨佛土起福德業。知一切眾生心念。如應說法起於智業　肇曰。大乘萬行分為二。業以智為行標故別立智業。諸行隨從故總立德業。凡所修立非一業所成。而眾經修相好淨土繫以德業。知念說法繫以智業。此蓋取其功用之所多耳。未始相無也。

"Arousing karmic deeds of merit through perfecting the marks and characteristics and purifying the Buddha-land; knowing the mental thoughts of all sentient beings and preaching the Dharma as appropriate arise from the karmic deed of wisdom." Zhao says: The myriad practices of the Great Vehicle are divided into two kinds of karma. Because wisdom is the guide of practice, the karmic deed of wisdom is established separately; because the various practices follow along, the karmic deed of merit is established generally. What is cultivated and established is never accomplished by a single karma; yet when various sūtras speak of cultivating the marks, characteristics, and pure lands, they tie them to the karmic deed of merit; and knowing thoughts and preaching the Dharma are tied to the karmic deed of wisdom. This is merely taking what is prominent in their function; they are never devoid of one another.
