"Ānanda, you see that the lands of the Buddhas have diverse grounds, just as empty space has no diversity. Just so, you merely see diversity in the physical bodies of the Buddhas; their unimpeded wisdom has no diversity." Below, the second part reproves the śrāvakas in the Mango Grove for grasping the response body as real. The text has three parts: first, revealing equality and inequality through similes; second, explaining universal equality; third, the actual subduing. This is the first part. Grounds having differences while space has no difference is the simile. Physical bodies exist in response to beings and therefore have diversity; the pure wisdom dharmakāya is universally equal: this is the application of the dharma. Sengzhao says: "The Buddha's wisdom is like space, while his responsive forms are like the earth. One does not differentiate space on account of the earth's differences, nor does one discard the earth on account of space's oneness."
