"Deeply generating the mind of sarvajñā without negligence or forgetting; instructing and transforming sentient beings without ever growing weary; constantly mindful of practicing in accord with the four means of embracing; guarding and upholding the true Dharma without sparing bodily life; planting all roots of goodness without exhaustion; with resolve ever dwelling peacefully in upāya and dedication." Externally transforming does not depart from kindness; internally cultivating does not forget wisdom. That is, seeking the bodhi mind without negligence or forgetting. Furthermore, externally transforming is untiring; internally one complies with the four means of embracing; externally one bridges the Dharma; internally one seeks merit. All are dedicated to bodhi, employing upāya to transform beings without seeking the fruits of the two vehicles or the three realms. Sengzhao says: "With kindness as the root and generating the aspiration as the heart, one then complies with the four means of embracing to transform sentient beings, protect the true Dharma, and plant roots of goodness. Thereby these myriad virtues flourish, their branches and twigs spread, and the tree of the Way thrives day by day, not exhausting the conditioned. The various practices and vows below are of the nature of branches and twigs, taken in the sense of thriving day by day to establish the meaning of 'not exhausting'. If one discards kindness and compassion, the tree of the Way is not established, the myriad virtues decline, and one hides oneself away in nirvāṇa; this is called exhausting the conditioned."
