“Having spoken these words, he bows everywhere to the Buddhas of the ten directions, faces Śākyamuni Buddha and the Mahāyāna scriptures, and further speaks these words: ‘The grave sins of the eye faculty that I now repent are obstructive and defiled, leaving me blind and without sight. May the Buddha with great kindness pity and protect me; may Samantabhadra Bodhisattva aboard the great Dharma ship universally cross over all beings; may the immeasurable companions of bodhisattvas of the ten directions only show kindness and pity, and hear my repentance of the unwholesome, evil karmic obstacles of the eye faculty.’ Having spoken thus three times, he casts his five limbs to the ground, maintains right mindfulness of the Mahāyāna, and does not forget it from his mind: this is called the method of repenting the sins of the eye faculty.
