The Buddha said to Ānanda: "Together with the bodhisattvas of the Bhadrakalpa and the Buddhas of the ten directions, because of contemplating the true meaning of the Mahāyāna, I eradicated the sins of birth and death spanning a hundred thousand myriad koṭis of asaṃkhyeya kalpas; because of this supreme and wonderful method of repentance, we have now each attained Buddhahood in the ten directions. If one wishes swiftly to accomplish anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi, or if one wishes in this present body to see the Buddhas of the ten directions and Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, one should bathe cleanly, put on clean clothes, burn various precious incenses, and in an uncrowded place chant and recite the Mahāyāna scriptures and contemplate the meaning of the Mahāyāna."
