經曰目連其母即於是日得脫一劫等者　述曰。第八慈母蒙益也。且一人之福似掬土而遏江河。今既大眾之威。若嵐風類於業嶺也。

[When] the sūtra states, 'Maudgalyāyana's mother on that very day obtained release from one kalpa [of suffering],' and so forth: The commentary says: This is the eighth [section], the compassionate mother receiving the benefit. The merit of a single person is like taking up a handful of earth to dam a river; now with the majesty of the great assembly, it is like a fierce gale sweeping away a mountain of karma.
