Precept 44: Sitting in a Screened Place with a Woman. The intention of the institution is the same as the preceding one; the only difference is the absence of a third person. There are four specific conditions: first, she is a laywoman; second, it is a screened place; third, there is no third person; fourth, sitting down where his outstretched hand cannot reach the door constitutes an offense. The text of the precept is clearly set forth below. The occasion for this precept is the same as the preceding precept.
