Sixty-seven: Hiding another's various requisites of life, even in jest, is a pāyattika. A householder invited the Buddha and the Saṃgha. The sixfold group of monks hid the robes and bowls of the seventeenfold group of monks so that they could not join the assembly in time. Because of this, the precept was instituted. In all cases of hiding another monk's possessions—whether by oneself or by instructing another, whether out of malice or in jest—it is entirely a pāyattika. Hiding robes, bowls, door-hooks, leather sandals, and needle cases so that the other cannot obtain them immediately is a duṣkṛta. If a thread-empty needle case is sought and found, or not found, in all cases it is a duṣkṛta.
