七十與女人共一道行乃至一聚落　上制與尼行。此制白衣女也。迦留羅提舍比丘。向毘舍離過。與一被遣婦人同路而行。夫後追覓見共同道。疑忿打擊。因是結戒。若與女人結期水陸共行。從村至村犯墮。中路還突。空地行十里犯墮。中路還突。若不期。若有夫而行相遠。若與王夫人伴悉無犯。

70. Traveling along the same road together with a woman, even to a single village, [is a pāyattika]. The rule above proscribed traveling with a nun; this rule proscribes [traveling with] a laywoman. The monk Kālodayin was passing toward Vaiśālī and traveled along the same road together with a dismissed wife. Her husband pursued and searched for her later, saw them traveling the same road together, and out of suspicion and anger beat him. On this account, the precept was formulated. If one makes an agreement with a woman to travel together by water or by land, going from village to village is an offense of pāyattika. Turning back halfway is a duṣkṛta. Traveling ten li through unpopulated land is an offense of pāyattika. Turning back halfway is a duṣkṛta. If one has not made an appointment; if she has a husband and they travel far apart; or if she is a royal consort's companion, in all cases there is no offense.
