The Fivefold Vinaya: The first is the Daśabhāṇavāra-vinaya. The Vinaya master was named Sarvāstivāda, who recited this vinaya. In the eighth year of the Hongshi era of the Qin, there was a Tripiṭaka master from Kashmir named Puṇyatāra, who recited the root text of the Daśabhāṇavāra-vinaya and brought it to Chang'an, translating this vinaya together with Master Kumārajīva. Before one section was finished being translated, Puṇyatāra passed away. Master Huiyuan of Mount Lu and Dharmaruci continued to translate what had not yet been translated. Later, there was another Tripiṭaka Vinaya master named Vimalākṣa, who was also a teacher whom Kumārajīva had sought earlier; he came on his own to Shanjian Monastery in Shouchun, re-collated the vinaya text, produced three more fascicles, and provided the Vinaya preface. Thereafter, among the vinayas in this land, the Daśabhāṇavāra was the first.
