Twelfth, explaining the doctrine of annihilationist views has two parts: 1. establishing their school; 2. broadly refuting the heterodox view.
The first section has four parts: 1. generally indicating the theorists; 2. establishing their school's view, in two parts: (1) relying on humans and so forth of the desire realm, and (2) relying on the example of the remaining six heavens; 3. separately distinguishing the theorists; 4. explaining the reasons for establishing the doctrine, which has two parts: (1) question, and (2) answer, which has two parts: [a] general answer, and [b] specific answer, in two parts: <i> answering by scriptural teaching, and <ii> answering by reasoning, which has three parts: the causes for establishing the doctrine, establishing the reasoning for the annihilationist view (which has three parts: the fault of obtaining without performing karma, the fault of lacking present enjoyment, and conclusion), and establishing similes (in two parts: simile and application).
Second, broadly refuting the heterodox view has two parts: 1. direct refutation; 2. general conclusion. The first section has two parts: (1) question; (2) refutation, in two parts: [a] refutation relying on the aggregates, and [b] refutation relying on the self in seven parts, as should be known from the treatise. The second section, the general conclusion, has two parts: (1) concluding the annihilation of the aggregates, and (2) concluding the annihilation of the self.
