Of the nine parts of Part 4, the detailed exposition, the third explains dhyāna that is difficult to practice (*duṣkara-dhyāna*), divided into three: 1. general question; 2. brief answer; 3. separate expositions, divided into three: (1) explaining *duṣkara-dhyāna* in terms of the fruit of the four dhyānas of the form realm which is difficult to turn away from, divided into three: establishing the cause, revealing the result, and conclusion; (2) explaining *duṣkara-dhyāna* in terms of the meditative absorptions belonging to the lineage of the ten powers that are difficult to cultivate, divided into three: establishing the cause, revealing the result, and conclusion; (3) explaining *duṣkara-dhyāna* in terms of the unsurpassable fruit that is difficult to attain, divided into three: establishing the cause, revealing the result, and conclusion.
