三集起義等者。謂第八識能集染淨諸法種子在識含藏。而能現起染淨諸法。若前七識能集熏起。染淨種子在本識中。令從本識起染淨法。故楞伽云。心名採集業。意名廣採集。故集起義八識皆通。

Regarding 'Third, the sense of accumulation and arising', and so forth: it means that the eighth consciousness can accumulate the seeds of defiled and pure dharmas, storing them within the consciousness, and can actively give rise to defiled and pure dharmas. The first seven consciousnesses can accumulate by perfuming, causing defiled and pure seeds to arise within the root consciousness and prompting defiled and pure dharmas to arise from the root consciousness. Hence the Laṅkāvatāra says: 'Mind is called the gathering of karma; the intellect is called extensive gathering.' Therefore, the sense of accumulation and arising is pervasive to all eight consciousnesses.
