論。若止觀不具至菩提之道　述曰。此顯闕失。菩提道者。即是法界菩提因也。止心寂歸法性體。觀心照用順法性用。止觀俱行雙順體用。既顯法性得成菩提。若唯修止。不順真用不發種智。若唯修觀。不歸真體輪迴無息。是故不具非入菩提。

[Treatise:] "If calm and contemplation are not complete […] the path of bodhi." / [Exposition:] This shows the shortcomings. "The path of bodhi" is precisely the cause of bodhi in the dharmadhātu. The mind of calm quietly returns to the essence of dharmatā; the mind of contemplation illuminates and functions in accord with the function of dharmatā. Calm and contemplation proceeding together concurrently accord with essence and function. When dharmatā is revealed, bodhi can be attained. If one only cultivates calm, one does not accord with the true function and does not generate all-knowledge. If one only cultivates contemplation, one does not return to the true essence and transmigration never ceases. Therefore, if they are not complete, one cannot enter bodhi.
