Treatise: [Breaking the characteristics of the composite consciousness,] revealing the dharmakāya, and destroying the characteristic of continuity of the mind, because cognition is pure and unadulterated.

Commentary: This reveals the fruit. The fruit has two kinds, namely substance and activity. By the preceding expedients, one can break the characteristics of arising and ceasing within the composite ālayavijñāna and reveal the unarisen and unceasing nature of original awakening. This is precisely because fundamental avidyā is exhausted, so that by having no thought, original awakening is revealed; therefore it says "breaking the characteristics of the composite consciousness". "Revealing the dharmakāya" means severing delusions and revealing the substance, which is the fruit's substance. At this very time, the continuous characteristics of karma, manifestation, appearance, and so forth within the defiled mind are destroyed; therefore, the mind of original awakening that followed defilement now immediately returns to the source as pure and unadulterated cognition, constituting the meaning of initial awakening as the saṃbhogakāya. Yet this initial awakening has no distinct initial arising; it is precisely original awakening acting in accordance with defilement. Because the initial is identical to the original, it is called "unadulterated"; because defiled conditions are exhausted, it is called "pure". Severing hindrances to reveal activity is the fruit's activity.
