第七識中有大八者。以此八種遍諸染心有勝力故。名之為大。故唯識論第六卷云。此二十種類別有三。謂忿等各十別起故名小隨煩惱。無慚等二遍不善故名中隨煩惱。掉舉等八遍染心故名大隨煩惱。

Regarding "within the seventh consciousness there are the eight large [secondary afflictions]": because these eight kinds pervade all defiled minds and have great power, they are called "large." Thus the sixth fascicle of the Cheng weishi lun says: "These twenty kinds have three categories: the ten, such as anger, arising separately, are called small secondary afflictions; the two, shamelessness and non-conscientiousness, pervading the unwholesome, are called medium secondary afflictions; and the eight, such as restlessness, pervading defiled minds, are called large secondary afflictions."
