Regarding "yet from the crude heaviness of the afflictions" and so forth: this resolves an implicit objection and reveals the meaning of severing. If in the three times there are no afflictions to be severed, why do the various teachings speak of severing afflictions? Therefore, this answers: although in active afflictions there is no meaning of severing, it can be designated as severing from the perspective of the seeds of crude heaviness. "Yet" has the sense of concession.
