1.80

得倍輪王護所等者。然其輪王總有四種。皆有七寶四兵衛護。故俱舍論本頌義云。輪王八萬上。金銀銅鐵輪。一二三四洲。逆次獨如佛。他迎自往伏。諍陳勝無害。相不正圓明。故與佛非等。既一切時無有損害。發心菩薩所得守護。倍勝輪王所有守護。

Regarding “attaining double the protection of a wheel-turning king,” and so forth: there are four kinds of wheel-turning kings in all, each possessing the seven treasures and protected by the four divisions of an army. Thus the root verses of the Abhidharmakośa say: “Wheel-turning kings [appear when human lifespan is] eighty thousand [years] and above; / [their wheels are of] gold, silver, copper, and iron, / [ruling over] one, two, three, or four continents / in reverse order; each rules alone like a Buddha. / Others welcome them, they go themselves to subdue, / or they array for battle and conquer without injury; / their marks are not correct, complete, and bright, / thus they are not equal to a Buddha.” Since at all times they are free from harm, the protection attained by a bodhisattva who has generated the [bodhi] mind is doubly superior to all the protection of a wheel-turning king.
