The Buddha addressed the great assembly: "Good sons, wishing to eradicate the four grave prohibitions, the grave offenses of the uninterrupted [hell], slandering the Great Vaipulya, and the offenses of the icchantika all depends upon faith. Furthermore, good sons, if a person does not have faith, but disparages, mocks, and shows disrespect, they thereby slander these twelve divisions of scriptures, slander the adamantine physical body, slander the Mahāsattva Mañjuśrī, and slander these buddhas of the ten directions. That this person will certainly fall into hell is without question. Why is this? Because of their lack of faith, because they slander the true Dharma, because they slander superior persons, and because they slander all the buddhas of the ten directions and the three times, they will certainly fall into hell. If one has faith in these buddhas' names and bows with utmost sincerity, that the ten evils, the five unpardonable offenses, and slandering the Vaipulya are not eradicated—there is no such possibility! The only exceptions are those who lack faith, people who have severed their roots of goodness, and icchantikas. Good sons, the hundreds of millions of Śākyamunis each manifest a transformation body to teach and transform in their respective lands; the final Śākyamuni is none other than my very body.
