佛告自在菩薩：「汝迴目下顧，見閻羅王以五事治化無有阿曲。云何為五？罪人在前即面詰問：『汝在人間知有佛、有法、有比丘僧、有父有母耶？』罪人報曰：『實有。大王！』爾時聖王以偈問曰：

The Buddha told Bodhisattva Zizai: "Turn your eyes downward and see King Yama administering governance with five matters without partiality or crookedness. What are the five? When a sinner is before him, he interrogates them to their face: 'While in the human realm, did you know there is the Buddha, there is the Dharma, there is the Bhikṣu-Saṅgha, and there are fathers and mothers?' The sinner replies: 'Indeed there are, Great King!' At that time the sage king questions them with a verse, saying:
