7.88

「吾昔一時在錦毘梨國，在一樹下禪定行道，九十日不移處所。時彼六師名金那金離，有女弟子酸陀難提，興嫉妬心欲障佛功德自顯師道。女言：『我能使人不供養佛，令師名聲流布無外。』時彼女人懷此謀心，日往佛所；經數日中，殺身埋精舍後園中。後來出死屍，言佛殺人。謗名流布，國人皆知。

"Once in the past, when I was in the kingdom of Campā, I was sitting under a tree in dhyāna meditation and practicing the path, not moving from that place for ninety days. At that time, the six teachers had one named Jinajīvaka, who had a female disciple named Sundarī. She aroused a jealous mind, wishing to obstruct the Buddha's merit and manifest her master's way. The woman said: 'I can cause people not to make offerings to the Buddha, and cause my master's fame to spread without bound.' Harboning this scheme in her mind, that woman went daily to the Buddha's place. Within a few days, she was killed and buried in the grove behind the monastery. Later, her corpse was brought out, and they claimed that the Buddha had killed someone. The slanderous rumor spread, and everyone in the kingdom came to know of it."
