"Therefore, today we disciples arouse this supreme, surpassing mind to repent of the three hindrances. For those who wish to extinguish the sins of these three hindrances, with what kind of mind should one make these sins be eliminated? One should first arouse seven kinds of mental attitude as skillful means; only then can these sins be eradicated. What are the seven? The first is shame and remorse; the second is terror; the third is revulsion and dispassion; the fourth is the aspiration for bodhi; the fifth is viewing enemies and kin with equanimity; the sixth is mindfulness of repaying the Buddha's benevolence; the seventh is contemplating the intrinsic emptiness of sin.
