3.10
"Having paid homage to the Triratna, next practice kṣamā again.
3.11
"All of you present, let your bodies and minds be tranquil at this very moment, free of flattery and free of obstacles; this is precisely the time to give rise to the good and eliminate the evil. Furthermore, each of you should generate four types of meditative contemplation to serve as preliminary skillful means for the eradication of offenses. What are the four? First, contemplate causes and conditions; second, contemplate karmic retributions; third, contemplate one's own body; fourth, contemplate the Tathāgata's body.
3.12
"Regarding the first, contemplating causes and conditions: know that these offenses of mine depend upon ignorance and improper reflection; lacking the power of correct contemplation, one does not recognize one's faults, stays far away from good spiritual friends, the buddhas, and bodhisattvas, follows the paths of māras, and walks upon crooked and perilous paths—like a fish swallowing a hook unaware of the peril, like a silkworm spinning a cocoon tangling and binding itself, like a moth darting into a flame burning and destroying itself. Through these causes and conditions, one is unable to escape by oneself.
3.13
"Regarding the second, contemplating karmic retributions: all evil and unwholesome karma revolves through the three times, and its bitter fruits are inexhaustible, sinking into the vast ocean of endless long night, devoured by the rākṣasas of the kleśas. In future saṃsāra, darkness will be boundless. Even if one attains the retribution of becoming a wheel-turning sage king who rules the four continents, flies freely through the air, and possesses the seven treasures, after life ends one cannot avoid dying and falling into the evil destinies. The retributions of the four formless realms are the supreme height of the tridhātu, yet when one's merit is exhausted, one returns to become a maggot inside a cow's head; how much more so for all others who lack merit and virtue, and yet are negligent and do not diligently practice kṣamā? This too is like holding a rock and sinking into the abyss—seeking escape is truly difficult.
3.14
"Regarding the third, contemplating one's own body: although one possesses the nature of luminous awakening as the correct cause, it is veiled and obstructed by the dark thicket of kleśas; lacking the power of illuminating causes, it cannot be revealed. I must now give rise to an exalted aspiration, tear apart the heavy obstacles of ignorance and delusion, sever and extinguish the false, bitter causes of saṃsāra, reveal the Tathāgata's great, bright, awakening wisdom, and establish the supreme, wondrous fruit of nirvāṇa.
3.15
"Regarding the fourth, contemplating the Tathāgata's body: it is unconditioned and tranquil-luminous, transcending the four extremes and cutting off the hundred negations, completely endowed with all virtues, serene and ever-abiding. Although through skillful means he enters extinction, in his compassion he rescues and receives [beings] without abandoning them for even a moment. When one gives rise to such a thought, it can be called the excellent ford for eradicating offenses and the essential practice for eliminating obstacles. Therefore, disciples, on this day with utmost sincerity prostrate and pay namas to the Buddha.
3.16
"Namo to Victorious Treasury Jewel Light Buddha in the eastern direction; namo to Jewel Accumulation Manifestation Buddha in the southern direction; namo to Dharmadhātu Wisdom Lamp Buddha in the western direction; namo to Supremely Subduing Buddha in the northern direction; namo to Nāga Sovereign King Buddha in the southeastern direction; namo to Transmuting All Saṃsāra Buddha in the southwestern direction; namo to Boundless Wisdom Sovereign King Buddha in the northwestern direction; namo to Boundless Merit Moon Buddha in the northeastern direction; namo to Ocean Wisdom Abhijñā Buddha in the nadir; namo to All-Victorious King Buddha in the zenith.
3.17
"Pay namas to all the Triratna throughout the space of the ten directions.
3.18
"We disciples, from anādikāla until today, have nourished kleśas, which day by day grow deeper, day by day thicker, day by day more flourishing, and day by day more luxuriant, covering the eye of wisdom so that it sees nothing, cutting off all good so that it cannot continue, giving rise to obstacles so that we do not see the Buddha, do not hear the true Dharma, and do not encounter the holy Saṅgha. Kleśas arise as obstacles: the kleśa-obstacles of not seeing good and evil karmic deeds across all realms in the past and future; the kleśa-obstacles to receiving the noble and honorable retributions of humans and devas; the kleśa-obstacles to being born into the dhyāna bliss of the form and formless realms; the kleśa-obstacles to failing to attain unhindered abhijñā to fly, vanish and appear, and travel everywhere to the pure lands of the buddhas of the ten directions to hear the Dharma; the kleśa-obstacles in learning ānāpānasmṛti breath-counting and contemplation on the impure; the kleśa-obstacles in learning the causes and conditions of loving-kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy, and equanimity; the kleśa-obstacles in learning the seven skillful means and the meaning of the three contemplations; the kleśa-obstacles in learning the four stations of mindfulness, heat, summit, and patience; the kleśa-obstacles in learning hearing, contemplation, cultivation, and the supreme worldly dharmas; the kleśa-obstacles in learning the understanding of emptiness, equality, and the middle way; the kleśa-obstacles in learning the eighthfold noble path with marks; the kleśa-obstacles in learning the seven limbs of awakening without marks; the kleśa-obstacles in learning the contemplation of causes and conditions among the aids to bodhi; the kleśa-obstacles in learning the eight liberations and the nine emptinesses; the kleśa-obstacles in learning the ten knowledges and samādhis; the kleśa-obstacles in learning the three vidyās, six abhijñās, and four unhindered knowledges; the kleśa-obstacles in learning the ṣaṭ pāramitāḥ and four immeasurables; the kleśa-obstacles in learning the four means of embracing to broadly transform beings; the kleśa-obstacles in learning the Mahāyāna mind and the four great vows; the kleśa-obstacles in learning the ten clarities and ten practices; the kleśa-obstacles in learning the ten dedications and ten vows; the kleśa-obstacles to the clear understanding of the first bhūmi, second bhūmi, third bhūmi, and fourth bhūmi; the kleśa-obstacles of the knowledges and views of the fifth bhūmi, sixth bhūmi, and seventh bhūmi; the kleśa-obstacles in learning the dual illumination of the eighth bhūmi, ninth bhūmi, and tenth bhūmi; and up to all the higher kleśa-obstacles that hinder the learning of the millions of asaṃkhyeyas of practices of the Buddha-fruit. Such obstacles to practice are immeasurable and boundless. Today, we disciples sincerely and earnestly prostrate before the buddhas, sacred Dharma, and noble Saṅgha of the ten directions, repentant and practicing kṣamā, wishing that they all be eradicated.
3.19
"May it be that, relying on this kṣamā, all kleśa-obstacles that hinder all practices will be permanently eliminated without remainder. May we disciples take birth freely anywhere without being turned around by fettering karma, and by means of the power of raddhi reach in a single instant all pure buddha-lands of the ten directions to gather and transform sentient beings; may we attain unimpeded mastery in the profound realms of all dhyānas and all knowledges and views, our minds able to pervade all dharmas universally, delighting in preaching endlessly without being tainted or attached; may we attain mastery of mind, mastery of phenomena, mastery of wisdom, and mastery of skillful means, causing these kleśas and the propensities of ignorance to be severed ultimately and permanently, never to continue again, and causing the undefiled noble path to shine brightly like the sun."

Mahāyāna Scripture on the Questions and Answers of Baoda on the Karmic Retribution of Śramaṇas
3.21
At that time, Baoda Bodhisattva went further into a hell named the Iron Clothes Hell. That hell was sixteen yojanas in length, breadth, and circumference. In that hell there were iron caltrops, sharp as sword points, spread completely over the ground. Smoke and flames blazed intensely, iron garments burned with fire, and the blazing heat of the fires roamed throughout the hell. At the eastern gate there were eight hundred śramaṇas looking up to heaven and crying out, beating their chests and wailing loudly, uttering these words: 'What offense have I committed today to enter this place?' Rolling on the ground, they could not move forward. A horse-headed rākṣasa held a three-pronged iron fork in his hand; aiming at their backs he struck through, coming out of the front of their chests, their whole bodies ablaze with fire. The horse-headed rākṣasa held an iron hook in his hand, aiming at their skeletons to hook them; wherever the iron hook caught, flames arose together with it. The sinners writhed and were unwilling to come; the horse-headed rākṣasa held an iron club in his hand, aiming at their heads to hammer them. There were also iron dogs that came to eat their flesh, and hungry ghosts that came to drink their blood. The iron garments in that hell flew about wildly to attach to the sinners, some attaching to their heads, some attaching to their feet, their whole bodies ablaze with fire, undergoing immeasurable punishment day and night.
3.22
Baoda asked the horse-headed rākṣasa, saying: 'Why do these sinner śramaṇas undergo such punishment?'
3.23
The horse-headed rākṣasa answered, saying: 'These sinner śramaṇas received the pure precepts of the Buddha but did not protect the dignified deportment; they discarded the proper robes of the Dharma and wore lay clothing, robes not in accordance with the Dharma. Because of these evil causes and conditions of violating the Buddha's pure prohibitions, they have fallen into this hell.'
3.24
When Baoda heard this, he wept sorrowfully and said:
3.25
"Why should sons of the śramaṇa,
who are called those who have transcended the three realms,
fail to guard themselves
and fall into these evil destinies?
Why should they fail to guard themselves
and suffer such great agony?
How can they attain peace and security
and truly be called people of liberation?"
3.26
Having spoken this verse, Baoda departed.
