If the practitioner attains mindfulness of dharmas, they become weary of the worldly dharmas of emptiness, old age, sickness, and death: there is not the slightest permanence, bliss, self, or purity. Establishing the power of vīrya, because one attains deep śamatha (deep śamatha is the name for fixing the mind in one place; this land has no such term). At that time, attaining deep śamatha and abiding in the fourth application of mindfulness of dharmas, one contemplates the marks of all dharmas as all duḥkha and without pleasure. 'Without pleasure' is real; the rest is false speech. Suffering has as its causes craving and other kleśas as well as karma; it is not born from various falsehoods such as God, Time, or Pradhāna. Kleśas and karma give birth to it; this suffering is truly suffering.
