1.9

是時父王即從坐起白佛言：「世尊！佛是吾子，吾是佛父，今我在世見佛色身，但見其外不覩其內。悉達在宮，相師皆見三十二相，今者成佛光明益顯，過踰昔日百千萬倍。佛涅槃後後世眾生，當云何觀佛身色相，如佛光明常行尺度？惟願天尊！今當為我及後眾生分別解說。」

Then the royal father rose from his seat and addressed the Buddha, saying: "Bhagavat! The Buddha is my son, and I am the Buddha's father. Now as I dwell in the world, I behold the Buddha's rūpakāya, but I see only its exterior and do not view its interior. When Siddhārtha was in the palace, physiognomists all saw the thirty-two primary marks. Now that you have attained buddhahood, your radiance is even more manifest, exceeding that of former days hundreds of thousands of myriad times over. After the Buddha enters nirvāṇa, how should sentient beings of future generations contemplate the color and marks of the Buddha's body, matching the constant measure and standard of the Buddha's radiance? I only pray, O Lord of Devas, that you will now distinguish and explain this for me and for future sentient beings!"
