The Buddha told Ānanda: "Those who practice mindfulness of the Buddha must guard themselves and not allow themselves to become indolent. As for practitioners of the buddhānusmṛti-samādhi, if they do not guard themselves and generate haughtiness, the evil wind of wrong livelihood will fan the fire of arrogance, burning away and destroying wholesome dharmas. Wholesome dharmas refer to all immeasurable dhyāna-concentrations. The dharmas of mindfulness of the Buddha are produced from the thoughts of the mind; they are called a treasury of merits."
