The Buddha said: 'When an arhat flies, there are two reasons why he makes himself unseen by people: first, for fear that if people see him, they will make lavish offerings; second, for fear that evil people will envy him.' The Buddha said: 'Displaying riddhipāda also brings two kinds of merit: first, when people see him flying, they will vigorously be mindful of the Way; second, receiving alms from people enables them to obtain great merit. It is for this reason that he displays riddhipāda. Because their minds are joyful, they obtain great merit.'
