The Buddha said: 'There was a monk who attained mental concentration while sitting. An upāsaka, seeing that the place where he was sitting was uneven, pulled him up to show him a comfortable spot. Because of this, the upāsaka was unable to attain tranquility for five hundred kalpas. Why? Because he interrupted the monk's meditation on the Way.' The Buddha told the disciples: 'When someone is expounding a scripture, take care never to interrupt in the middle; the offense of interrupting a scripture is unreckonably grave.'
