The Buddha said: 'A monk went to an upāsikā's home for piṇḍapāta. Seeing that she was beautiful, improper thoughts arose in the monk, and he rose to leave. The upāsikā then brought food offerings to give him, but the monk walked away, saying: "I should not accept offerings from people." The upāsikā replied to him: "Since you already have a mind of remorse, you may accept the offering." The upāsikā spoke again, and the monk accepted it.' The Buddha said: 'Just as when a person recognizes an evil thought as soon as it arises, the offense is extinguished. The monk accepted the offering and incurred no offense.' The Buddha told the disciples: 'If one can contemplate emptiness and restrain the mind for even the span of a finger-snap, one can attain the Way.'
